(Music of) Daily Routines:
"Daily routines" of Military Installations (Posts and Bases) are regulated by Bugle Calls and/or Drum Calls (at first, LIVE music and "Salutes" with a Cannon, now normally, recorded music, but on special days, LIVE music is still played ( for as long as our People remain wise enough to preserve the shared traditions and honors of our "Combination Tribe" of Americans. We preserve those traditions, by Leading in the Teaching of those traditions to each generation of Children, by Teaching them what their music is (such as here), by Teaching them to play their music, and/or by leading in assembling the Instruments and opportunity for them to learn to play their music.
In the earliest times, Boys played the Bugles and Drums, staying close to the General, and the Bugle Calls and Drums served (much as RadioTelephones and Laptops do now) as a method of sending the General's Orders to the Soldiers and their Units. The Boys very much served as Soldiers, "Small Soldiers", and learned 178 Drum calls in 24 hours. This does NOT leave out the Girls or the Ladies. The Girls showed extreme courage also, because they wore "plainclothes", and flowed in and out of our Homeland, passing through Friendly AND enemy lines, delivering memorized messages accurately, and delivering Food and Drink to the Soldiers of the "Continental ARMY of the People of The United States Of America". Enduring times of loneliness, the The Moms and Wives wiped tears from their eyes, and tended to the crops and animals on the Farms and Ranches, and prepared Food and Drink for the Girls to deliver. The Ladies and the Young Ladies also helped substantially, by providing Christian PRAYERS (a very real positive force) for the safety and Victory of the Gentlemen and the Young Gentlemen, who were fighting to establish our FREEDOMS, or were defending and guarding the Freedoms, Property, and People that we had gained, freed, and trained. The Bugle Calls told the Soldiers WHAT to do, and the Drum "Cadences" told them HOW FAST to do it.
First Call
(wakes up the Buglers, so they have time to get
dressed, and move to their duty position)
Reveille
(Buglers play this to awaken the rest of the
Soldiers)
Assembly
Calls the Soldiers to fall into their proper
(prearranged) positions in formation, so a "headcount" of Soldiers present can
be done, so Orders can be passed to the Soldiers, so Soldiers that are ill or
hurt can be directed to the Medical Department for evaluation and care, so
decorations can be awarded, so promotions can be announced, etc.
Officers' Center
Once the Soldiers are properly assembled,
"headcounted", and instructions have been given by the NCOs (Corporals and
Sergeants), the Bugler plays "Officers' Center", to call the Platoon Leaders and
Commanding Officer to the Formation, so that Officers may have an opportunity to
address the assembled Soldiers. Examples, Officers could deliver words of
commendation to a Soldier or the Unit as a TEAM, or could give further
information and explanation of the specifics of Orders that NCOs had previously
relayed to the Soldiers. The song is called "Officers' Center", because the
Commander "posts" himself or herself "centered" on the front rank ("First
Squad") of the Unit.
First Call to Mess
(Gives one time to move to the Dining
Facility)
Mess Call
[same music is used for Breakfast, Dinner (Lunch),
and Supper, by knowing the time of day, and knowing what "shift" you are
assigned to, you know which meal it is for you].
Recall
Returns Soldiers to Formation, from various duties
that they have been doing.
ADDITIONAL Bugle Calls:
Additional Bugle Calls may (according to need) be sounded throughout the day, and can call the Soldiers to respond to special needs, special duties, or special ceremonies.
Drum Cadences:
Drum Cadences tell the Soldiers HOW FAST to perform an action that has been Ordered.
