New TOYS stories here!     12 NOVEMBER 2008

Current Research & Development Projects # 8, 9, 10:

U.S. ARMY "Folding Field Desk & Folding Stool"

2 Soldiers have just unloaded this "box" off of one of our 2 1/2 ton military carge Trucks.

It has metal handles on both sides to aid in lifting & loading.

One side of this "box" has "compression latches" securing it closed. Let's undo them and investigate the contents.

This project is still under development, but we can see that it already has 3 new type drawers

installed and being tested in the field. More drawers are to be added!

Some parts that we found stowed in the lower left drawer slot.

Looks sort of like 2 "tent pole" sections, huh?

The Soldiers added the lid of the "box" onto the right top edge, by sliding 2 metal prongs down

into slots in the horizontal bar near the top of the right side of this "box".

Unfortunately, at this point, the table top created isn't even level; and would

perhaps break down if we placed something like a radio or typewriter here.

Maybe we can use these to help out.

OK, this is cool.

Ah....much better!

One of the Soldiers that unloaded the desk, says that he is a "Battalion Clerk", and that this is the desk he uses in the field.

Working here, he can write up or typewrite, important papers that the Commander needs

produced, such as reports of unit strength, casualty reports, promotion orders, etc.

He says his friend is a "communications sergeant" in the "Signal Corps", and has several

such desks to set up, with desktop version 2 way Radios for his Headquarters "radio operators" (MOS 05B20) to use.

This way, we can always stay in touch with the "05B20 Radio Operators" (wearing Backpack version 2 way Radios), who

are intentionally assigned with field maneuver units, providing them "Signal Corps" support, in case the

Field Unit Commander needs to make telephone calls back to our Headquarters.

Looks like he needs something that he has stored in the top drawer of his desk.

This is a real drawer, and it really operates.

Hmmm....I guess that is true for all of these drawers.

All packed up again; we've gotta 'bug out" (go mobile)!

Good thing that we have these metal lifting bar handles on both sides (that fold up and down), so it's a lot easier to lift & load up.

Three more drawers will be created and added in.

This desk is available in "Olive Drab" color also, even though this one shown, is finished in "Olive Green".

"292 Field Antenna Array"

U.S. Army "Signal Corps"

Colonel Stiner, as your new "Signal Corps Officer", I'd like to show you some new equipment that the

"Colorado Kids National Guard" has invented for us.

Commander, this is a demonstration of the new "292 Antenna Array".

Our "Signal NCO" (a "Tactical Communications Chief") has laid out the antenna components.

Close up of our components.

Let's lay out these sections in correct sequence, to logically prepare for assembly.

"Ground Spike" (shorter) on the left, "Antenna base Spike" on the right.

Note the socket holes on both, where will insert the plug of the 2 radio cables.

They are "pin indexed" to prevent inserting the wrong cables into the wrong spike.

The "antenna spike" is "non-conductive" and the signal connected to it by radio cable, travels up the antenna mast sections,

rather than toward the earth.

Also note, we have removed the (not shown) "rubber protective dummy plugs" that are inserted (for storage) into these radio cable "sockets",

in order to keep out dirt, water, etc., and to prevent damage to our sockets.

We begin threading "antenna mast sections" onto the antenna spike base on the right hand side.

The lower sections of the "antenna mast" are threaded together, and then the "guywire securing plate" mast section is threaded on top.

The silver chrome mast section tops, are threaded into the sockets in the next antenna mast section.

Four sections of antenna are screwed into the "groundplane" mounting bracket.

The remaining 3 sections are screwed together to full length, then screwed into the the top antenna spike mount.

One of our "CounterSnipers" (Ranger Jackson) overwatches guard while we concentrate on this class.

We've assembled the various sections together, into a complete antenna array.

Let's carry this over to the training ground at the right, and erect this "292 Antenna".

Now, Gentlemen, if someone would bring over that crate of tent stakes, the wooden mallets, and those lengths of guy wire,

we'll get this "292 Antenna" ready to defeat the effects of high winds trying to knock it down.

Our new "Radio Table" and Armchair for our "Radio Telephone Operators".

More cool Photos to come, as we progress!

CHECK BACK SOON!
