Our "M998 HUMMVEE ARMORED AMBULANCE" PROJECT
Thanksgiving Day, November 2007
Of course, one of the preeminent concerns for a Special Forces Group Commanding General, is to be certain that we can rapidly deliver outstanding quality medical care to every soldier that may be wounded or become injured or sick, while our soldiers are acting "in the line of duty" as protectors and defenders of America and its People!
We would need to provide rapid responding, skilled Medical soldiers, to evacuate injured or ill soldiers from their duty stations (wherever), and transport them reliably and safely to rear area Medical hospitals, more remote from dangers.
This Medical "evacuation" may include by Air, Sea, or Land; by vehicle, or by man powered "litter teams", when vehicles can not safely get in to rescue and transport the injured or ill. Sometimes, the "enemy situation" includes enemy "air threat" where our aircraft and their crews may be in substantial personal danger, while trying to get in to perform rescues and evacuations. Sometimes WEATHER factors may be the opposing enemy causing this threat. Thus, in addition to our "U.S. 21st SFG-RPA" Aviation Helicopter support (which is likely to be the fastest method of evacuating soldiers that need care); we would also need trained "litter teams" to move soldiers further from dangers using medical "stretchers"; then the "2 man litter team" or the "4 man litter team", would safely deliver their patient(s) to a "Hummvee Armored Ambulance" (model M998). To our personal knowledge and experience, such ambulances exist in the full size scale, but we had never seen one created in "1/6th scale", to fill the preexisting gap in the continuity of medical care needed by our loyal Action Figures. Even civilian "dolls" could be evacuated during community emergencies!
Note here, that a fullsize "Hummvee Armored Ambulance" (M998 Hummvee) is NOT merely a medical transport vehicle! It also serves as a mobile "Emergency Room", well equipped with Medical Supplies and skilled Medical Soldiers! As closely as our engineers can duplicate in 1/6th scale, we will parallel the equipment and supplies in the fullsize guy! Thus, as the Kids wanted, our Action Figures and Dolls CAN get quality medical support!
Therefor, the assembled shareholders of the "U.S. 21st SFG-RPA, JUWTF SOG" (American Kids All) unanimously voted in favor of commencing our project, to build and deploy into action, the first ever (custom made) 1/6th scale "Hummvee Armored Ambulance"!
This is the ongoing story of this project, captured in photographs and text:
[Author's Note: The "Corps Colors" of the "U.S. Medical Corps" is "Maroon and Silver" (the colors of genius), therefor, throughout this presentation of our project, we will be switching to use of Maroon ink to type photo caption(s) of explanations].

We'll have to be authorized access to the Security Area, where the "M998 Hummvee Armored Ambulance" is being built! |

A Woodland Camo "1/6th scale Hummvee Cargo Truck" from "21st Century TOYS" was selected to be the transportation base, for creation of our "Hummvee Armored Ambulance"......essentially, we are building a "Medical Camper Shell"! We started by getting the necessary measurements, and then the vehicle was sent to our legal "chop shop", where our Vehicle Maintenance Crew used arc welding/cutting torches to remove the truck's existing "tailgate". |

The results of the very first night of work on our SECRET project! |

High Level Command, has expressed a personal interest in the improving Medical care of our Soldiers! Here Doc PETERSON gives project details to "General Of The U.S. ARMY" DOUGLAS MacARTHUR (Pacific Forces Supreme Commander) and to "General Of The U.S. ARMY" DWIGHT DAVID EISENHOWER (Atlantic Forces Supreme Commander). |

Very concerned in regard to the safety of U.S. Soldiers who may be hurt or ill, the 2 Supreme Commanders (both 5 Star U.S. Generals Of The ARMY), personally experience transport by Litter. (Note the 2 slots in each "litter rack" which serve as guides for the litter "stirrups"). |

Dragon "Doc PETERSON" begins testing the smoothness, of the sliding door (that allows medics into the rear "medical camper shell" to assist patients, even when the ambulance is moving!). |

Very smooth! |

Doc wants to demonstrate how a Medic in the "cab", can get to a patient in the rear during vehicle movement! |

You can see, one "Litter Rack" can handle a patient on a stretcher, while the other "Litter rack" can be set into chairback position, to seat 4 "ambulatory patients". TWO upper level "litter Racks" will be added later on, thus enabling transport of these combinations: 4 "Litter" patients OR 8 "Ambulatory" patients OR 2 "Litter" patients AND 4 "Ambulatory" patients! |

One can see, 4 "ambulatory" patients really can fit seated on one side! |

"Lower Litter Rack" is set in chair back position, for transporting 4 "ambulatory" (walking wounded or ill) patients per side. |

The RIGHT side "Lower Litter Rack" chair position, is tested by "U.S. ARMY Air Corps" Brigadier General JAMES DOOLITTLE, recipient of the Congressional Medal Of Honor, awarded for planning & leading the early WW2 retaliatory bombing raid on mainland Japan, shortly following the Japanese's murderous air sneak attack on PEARL HARBOR, HAWAII, USA, on 7 December 1941. The only sneak we ever suffered worse than this one, was that done by the Muslims, on the "Twin Towers" New York, on 11 September, 2001. BOTH groups of liars steadily insisted before their murderous attack: "We are your friends!" |

We are now going upward with armor plate sidewalls to protect patients in the Ambulance. Here the first layer of side wall has been welded on the LEFT side. |

Now onto the RIGHT side wall.... |

Clamps used to assure good "weld" of side wall, to the "Lower Litter Racks". |

We get by, with a little help from our Friends! |

Installation of "Litter Rack Braces" to allow adjustment of the "lower litters" (stretchers) rack, from (lower slot) "stretcher patients" carrying capability, into (upper slot) "ambulatory" patients transport capability! |

While our "U.S. Marine Corps Drill Instructor" inspects beneath our "Hummvee Armored Ambulance", we can make note of the sloping angle of the armor plate welded in the area where the extendable/retractable "steps" will be installed into the new vehicle "tailgate". "U.S. ARMY Military Police" keep our workcrew secure, and prevent sabotage to our project! |

The open space beneath the seating area, will be used to store additional "first aid kit" supplies. |

Spare "Medical Supplies" are being gathered. |

We have now turned our attention, to completing the armor plate divider, separating the overhead "cab" storage areas, for gear for Medical Driver, and for Medical Aidman. |

A carefully angle calculated piece of strong armor plate, has been installed, to provide separation of the 2 crew members' personal field gear. |

We have now added the first section of heavy armor plate, to begin creating the "cab" rooftop! |

In the background, one can see some of the practicing "Surgical Team" Medical Soldiers assigned to our "MASH" unit. |

2 more adjacent sections of armor plate, have been welded onto the "cab" rooftop! |

A 4th section of "cab" rooftop armor plate has been added! |

A fifth section of armor plating, completes the essentials of the "cab" rooftop FRONT! |

"Squared away here, Sir!" |

LEFT upper side wall armor plate has been welded into proper positioning. |

And now, RIGHT upper side wall armor plate has been welded into position also! |

Rear view of this phase's completion! |

Next, we have welded in a heavy armor plate bar, joining both side walls, to brace and square up, the rear doorway area! |

A very great deal of certified welding, has been required for our project! |

Good "Headroom" for our working Medical Soldiers! |

Massive requirement for hand sanding! |

"Hummvee Armored Ambulance", standing in comparison to world legend 12 inch "G.I. JOE 4 Star General GEORGE SMITH PATTON" and his faithful wardog "WILLIE PATTON". |

More "Armor Plate" has just been welded into position, to complete the "cab" of the "Hummvee Armored Ambulance", further securing the 2 Medical Corpsmen crewing this vehicle, and better assuring the rapid recovery of the health of wounded and ill soldiers! (Left Door was removed for ease of installing "cab" armor plating, but will be reinstalled later on). |

(Right side view) A skilled field soldier, such as yourself, can see the "Hummvee Armored Ambulance" taking correct shape! |
More Photos to be added SOON!
