On 19 SEPT 2007, The Telephone rang at General KAFFENBERGER's Cabinet Shop, Fort KAFFENBERGER, Wheat Ridge, Colorado USA. It was Colonel GILBERT, Battalion Commander of the U.S. 3rd Battalion, U.S. 21st Special Forces Group, Rangers Pathfinders Airborne, Joint Unconventional Warfare Task Force, Studies and Observations Group; stationed at GILBERT U.S. A.F.B. (Air Force Base). Everyone knows that an Air Force base is a great place to station a battalion of U.S. Paratroopers.

Colonel GILBERT related that he had noticed that FTX (Field Training Exercises) for his command, could be greatly improved, if we could add more realism to their training. He recommended that our Combat Engineers be ordered to build a WW2 German style Gatehouse and Roadblock ASAP...perhaps it could be prefabbed in Colorado, and then shipped to the SECRET base at GILBERT USAFB. Colonel GILBERT stated that he hoped that this would only be the first of many successful projects, designed to heighten unit training, teamwork, and esprit du corps of his troopers. Colonel GILBERT stated that budget allocations to fund this project were available, and that the TO&E (Tables Of Organization & Equipment) for his elite unit, specifically authorized such projects, aimed at heightening unit abilities in areas such as POW-MIA rescues, Downed Pilot Rescues, "Dirty Dozen" Operations, and DELTA Force rescues of skyjacked civilians, etc.; Colonel GILBERT also pointed out that his unit was specifically authorized an "Aggressor Team", and that an initial aggressor force acting in roles as "WW2 German Soldiers" could be but the first of many  such forces, to be an aid to unit training. General KAFFENBERGER agreed that this would be an outstanding idea, and Colonel GILBERT was given the green light, and broad powers of discretion, to make the idea work. Colonel GILBERT was then connected with General J. JERCINOVIC, Adjutant General Corps, and Deputy Group Commander, to cut the orders to implement such project, and sequels to follow. Colonel GILBERT was given authority to issue direct "orders" to our Group "Combat Construction Engineers" as needed to implement these roleplay scenarios.

Construction Day 1

Combat Engineer Company Captain (wearing Gold Carheart Jacket) directs construction of "mudsill" for German Gatehouse.

Closeup of "Blue print" for the Mudsill.

Squaring up corners.

Boss, can you give us some power, please?

OK, then I'm going to back away, because I don't have my safety goggles on!

Hold your mouse over the above Photo to play a short Audio Video Movie!

While the Carpenters are at the sawmill, the Painter SGT reviews the blueprints.

Some of these "frames" require a "jackstud", we'll need to make 2 piece "GluLams" for them.

I'll mark the postions on the "toeplate" and "topplate" where the studs need to be nailed in.

Let's get all of these "studs" nailed into each "frame" where they belong.

To protect his back, and to do better quality work, the carpenter gets done close to the work that needs to be done.

To make the nailing easier for his boss, a second carpenter braces up against the end of the boards being connected, so that they don't just move away when the hammer falls.

Making certain that each "frame" is squared, complying with the engineer's "layout" specifications.

Carpenter Sergeants pick up the assembled "rear frame" of the WW2 German Gatehouse, and walk it into position where it belongs on the "mudsill".

A third Carpenter nails the vertically held "rear frame" into place on the "mudsill"(using 16d galvanized nails).

Carpenters do a trial fit, of the "left side frame" and the "right side frame".

Construction crew is celebrating that the WW2 German Gatehouse "frames" are now assembled, upright, and free standing.

"If I had a hammer", and knew how to use it well, I could earn a good legal paycheck, by doing many productive projects, of construction, repair, and/or maintenance.

SGT Saunders and his "COMBAT" team, just captured the WW2 German Gatehouse!

Extra clearance on each side of my "easy chair"!

Plenty of room to get through the front door!

There will be plenty of overhead clearance in this building!
