WW2 5 digit "DoDIC" R1ATA correctly identifies the 2 above Ammunition Crates, as being Crates of 80 rounds "HE" (High Explosive for "Anti-Aircraft" uses) 20mm Cannon Cartridges, belted together with metal links, just like Machinegun Ammunition. |

Our 20mm Ammunition Crates and the rounds they can carry, work with 20mm Air Defense Full Automatic Cannons. |

A "U.S. 101st Airborne Division" Air Defense Officer and Gunner Instructor, puts this 20mm Automatic Cannon through its drill. |

Since this is a forward area Air Defense Gun (towed behind a truck, then lowered into position), our Lieutenant keeps his weapons and gear close at hand, in case he needs to defend against forward area ground opponents. However, since he and his Cannon protect the heads of the Infantry unit he is attached to, the "grunts" he is guarding, make certain that the Lieutenant has few problems with enemy ground forces! |

This 20mm Cannon can rotate 360 degrees in a full circle, to fire in defense of the accompanying ground forces; presently, our gunner has the weapon pointed generally in the direction of anticipated enemy aircraft approach to our "area of operation" (AO). |

160 rounds of crated spare 20mm Cannon Ammo is parked close behind our Air Defense Cannon position. |

3 spare loaded Magazines of 20mm Ammunition, are ready and waiting to be used for fast reloads of our 20mm automatic Cannon. |

"Cocked. Locked, and Ready to Rock!" |

U.S. ARMY "Ordnance Corps" markings that are stenciled on front and rear of these Crates. |

This Label is stenciled on one end...it indicates that in every 5 rounds (of the 80 in the ammo belt), that there is: 1 "BALL" (FMJ) round, then 1 "Tracer" round, then 1 "Armor Piercing" round, then 1 "Armor Piercing Incendiary" round, then 1 "Armor Piercing Incendiary Tracer"...then we begin again; and repeat that for every 5 rounds (shells of ammo) throughout this linked "belt" of ammunition. |

To help you with size comparisons (in your planning & decision making processes), We placed one of our "20mm HE Anti-Aircraft 80 'link-belted' rounds Ammunition Crates" on the hood of this Jeep. |

For further size comparisons...our 20mm Crate (bottom one) is shown with a ".50 MG Crate" above it, and then a ".30 MG Crate" on the very top. |
